Spring 2023 High Point Market Trends

Allyson and her design team travel twice a year to High Point Market in North Carolina to spend a few days exploring new product trends and meeting with manufacturers within the interior design industry. It’s a wonderful way for us to bring YOU–our wonderful customers– all the upcoming new options in everything from fabrics to hardware to paint colors to furniture styles and room trends. What came across loud and clear at Spring 2023 market? Here’s the low-down:

Natural textures like grass cloth, seagrass, bamboo, and wicker
With people spending more work and leisure time at home in recent years, customers want their homes to be more functional with comfortable, organic texture that you can touch and feel.

  • Buffets, consoles and bedroom furniture wrapped in elegant, natural-toned grass cloth were widely seen in the showrooms.

  • Macrame accessories or trim

  • With sustainability an issue of growing in importance, we saw tons of bamboo furniture.

  • Botanicals are back in the form of artwork. It’s an easy way to bring a Zen feeling into your space and create a peaceful environment….and they require no watering.

  • For those that don’t mind the watering, bringing living walls of plants & grasses inside the home is a growing trend.

Move over gray
Gray as a neutral base and its siblings black and white are done for now. Warm natural tones are coming back and “redefining neutral.” Tan, taupe, and beige are no longer the only neutrals…neutral can be done in greens/blue that have been grayed down and used as the subtle base tone for a room.

  • Earthy colors like russet, orange, sage green, and copper tone were widely seen at market this spring–a clear sign that people want to bring the outdoors into their living spaces.

  • Navy blue is supplanting black as the go-to accent color…it’s easier to live with.

  • Bright colors (such as hot pink) were only used in spot artwork, throw pillows or spot fabric highlights. We saw some art-deco-inspired teal/rust combinations in pillows and other accessories.

  • We saw a lot of brass accents at market as well as contemporary gold trim.

A nod toward the traditional rather than modern
Younger clientele are leaning toward traditional design for their homes. And the higher the cost, the more customers lean toward classic styles. Fads are fleeting and more and more customers want “forever furniture” that can just be refreshed occasionally. Traditional-inspired details we saw:

  • Painted cabinets. When “the bones are good” you can easily give cabinets new life with a color facelift.

  • Bone inlay. Customers appreciate craftmanship and we saw a lot of great option for displaying individuality with this unique style.

  • Performance fabrics. These have been around a while but continue to offer customers long-lasting form and function.

  • Trim gives anything personality. We saw lots of it on upholstery and painted walls.
